Let’s Get Emotional!

Image 21Some of the most difficult scenes to write can be the emotionally charged ones. Whether it's happiness or sadness, confusion or anger, a scene needs to hook the reader, pulling them into the character's feelings in a way that is both convincing and plausible. I find that often times I may write a scene in the most powerful way and gain the reader's empathy when I am feeling that same emotion myself. For example, when I experienced grief and loss- I sat and wrote about that exact feeling and poured my sadness into my writing. When I'm angry, I can take that same rage and express it on page. So, the next time you find yourself feeling emotional- put it to work for your writing and you won't be disappointed.
