Florida Cowboys wear Stranglers…

I've gotten many questions from readers regarding the scene in Cowgirl Strong, book #3 in the Redneck Debutante®™ Series, about Travis and his lack of underwear. Without ruining it for people who haven't read Cowgirl Strong, I decided to provide a little background information on this small, unknown tidbit. Growing up my friends and I wore our jeans so tight that we had to lay down just to zip them up...using a pair of wire pliers no less. Hence the popular brand of jeans worn the world over by cowboys and cowgirls in our vernacular became known as Stranglers. Over the years, I've worked on many cow crews and more often than not, my sister and I were the only cowgirls on the work crew. I can't tell you how many times in the past thirty-plus years I've seen cowboys split their worn-out jeans swinging up into the saddle. And guess what? No underwear. LOL! So, now the pertinent question becomes why? Why don't they wear them? I've asked some throughout the years and they've told me everything from "Underwear cause chafing when you're riding for a long time" to "It's just uncomfortable". A wise woman I know said it's because their Stranglers are so blasted tight they can't fit anything else underneath them. Maybe they just like to go commando. It seems to be more of a regional thing- Florida after all is rather muggy and hot. I don't know about cowboys out West or in Texas- as I've never worked cows on horseback with any of them. I only know one thing for certain and that is that Stranglers look great on cowboys. The tighter the better is my theory. And as for the underwear- wear them or don't. You'll get no complaints from us cowgirls.
