Becoming a Best Selling Indie Author…

I wish I could say that this was easily done, but as many of you know it wasn't. Along the way I've had many ups and downs- but a passion for writing has always pushed me onward. As I get farther down this path and experience more success than I thought possible, I've decided to share my journey with others. I have worked with an agent, but I don't anymore- and all of it has been a huge learning curve. Today I will focus on motivating each of you to push yourselves. Don't let your writing be defined by traditional publishing. Your writing doesn't have to be formulaic or fit within a box. An agent told me that Parachute Girls was neither saleable nor marketable in its current state. The back and forth vignettes between present and past weren't acceptable for Historical Fiction. So, I decided to self-pub this novel based on a true story with no changes. The result was a #1 Best Seller. It continues to sell exceedingly well in four countries. The bottom line here is- if it's a good story it will sell regardless of the restraints of genre and prescriptions for literary success. Break the rules and have fun doing so. Eventually you'll be glad you did!
